Protocols

The DNA Bank accepts samples in the following formats:

Fresh blood in EDTA or Acid Citrate Dextrose (ACD) Vacutainer tubes

Frozen blood preserved in EDTA or ACD

Frozen Buffy Coat

Saliva samples in tube format (Oragene kit REF OG-300)

DO NOT allow frozen samples to thaw.

Services:

Serum only – Serum will be pulled from red, brown, or tiger top tubes.  The serum will then be stored in 2mL screw-cap tubes at -80C.

DNA Extraction from Whole Blood – Genomic DNA will be extracted from nucleated cells in the blood stored in EDTA or ACD tubes.  The extracted DNA will be stored in 900µL of 1x TE.

Plasma and DNA Extraction from Whole Blood – Prior to extracting genomic DNA from whole blood stored in either EDTA or ACD tubes, plasma will also be taken from the sample.  Both plasma and DNA will be stored.

DNA Extraction from Frozen Blood – Genomic DNA will be extracted from frozen blood samples stored in either EDTA or ACD buffers.  The extracted DNA will be stored.

DNA Extraction from Buffy Coat – Genomic DNA will be extracted from frozen Buffy coat.  The extracted DNA will be stored.

Whole Blood/Buffy Coat Storage – Whole Blood/Buffy Coat samples will be stored into cryogenic tubes and stored at -80C.

DNA Extraction, no storage – Genomic DNA will be extracted from whole blood.  Once extracted, please arrange for a pickup.  The DNA will not be transferred to the permanent storage tubes and will not be stored at DNA Bank.
